INTRODUCING THE AA TRAINING CENTRE

The AA Training Centre (AATC) is an operating division of The Automobile Association of South Africa NPC (The AA). AATC is a fully registered Skills Development Provider (SDP) and Trade Test Centre (TTC) with the Quality Council for Trades & Occupations (QCTO) and thereby the various Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETA) such as merSETA and ServicesSETA etc.

We are currently a level 1 BBBEE contributor which means that any company engaging with The AA will be able to to improve their own score and claim 135% of their Skills Development (SD) spend with us, i.e., for every R1.00 spent with us, they can potentially claim R1.35 against their own preferential procurement scoring. Companies not wishing to deal with the hassle of learners may spend their SD monies with the AA and will gain BEE and SARS benefits while the AA does all the groundwork of dealing with the learners and meeting the BEE requirements of the training programmes.

SARS extends a further tax exemption per apprentice per year with values dependant on various rules.

Placing of host learners at workshops

Host Employers can increase their working capacity at no extra cost – learners are placed free of charge with only a few terms and conditions that need to be met by the host:

  • A qualified artisan will need to mentor, supervise learners, check their work, track and report on their attendance and progress in learning.
  • Allow the learner to attend 1 week of training per month thus he/she is available for 3 weeks in the workshop.
  • Ensure they get exposed to tasks directly in line with their trade – may not be used for cleaning, store re-arranging, etc. (however they can do these jobs if it is less than 10% of their working day).
  • To comply with the legal aspect there will be an agreement which would need to be signed between the Lead Employer, Host Employer and AATC.

Training takes place over 1 week every 6 to 8 weeks to minimise the impact on workshop productivity.
