The Easter long weekend is here! Keep the family smiling with a host of great events near you. If you’re looking for things to do in Joburg or family activities in Cape Town, Durban or Gqeberha, we’ve got you covered. Check out our list of Easter entertainment and exciting treats for kids (and we don’t mean chocolate!).

Head to the Rand Show 2019

Fun for the whole family! The Rand Show is celebrating 125 years of entertainment in Johannesburg and marking the occasion with 10 days of jam-packed excitement, including the Science Tech Zone, the Adventure Zone, Zip Zap Circus, and a spectacular display by the South African National Defence Force.

Splash Festival in Gqeberha

The 4-day Splash Festival 2019 has loads to offer! Besides the sporting events, like National Jetski Races, SA Beach Volleyball, Pro Wrestling, City Surf Pro and newly added Laser Tag, there’ll be over 30 food stalls, kiddies entertainment and over 32 live acts on stage, including DJ Ganyani and Snotkop.

Go hunting…

Join the daily (and decadent) Lindt Easter Egg Hunt at the V&A Waterfront. Find the two gold Easter bunnies, snap a pic and share it with the tag #GoldbunnyhuntSA and #ComePlayVandA.

In Durban, take part in Africa’s largest Easter Egg Hunt at uShaka Marine World. With maps in hand, your kids have the chance to find over 100,000 chocolate goodies!

On Easter Sunday in Cape Town, the Easter Bunny and friends will lead the traditional Table Mountain Easter Egg Hunt at the Lower and Upper Cable Stations. Expect great entertainment, including face painting, puppetry, juggling, magic tricks and more.

Do some good…

If you join in the festivities at Joburg’s 9-day Lusito Land Festival this Easter, you’ll be contributing towards the non-profit organisation, Children with Disabilities. Plus, you’ll enjoy all kinds of family fun, from Portuguese folk dancing and top local artists to mouth-watering food.

In Durban, support the SPCA by joining them for an afternoon picnic. Bring the kids (and dogs) for a host of Easter fun, including jumping castles, lucky draws, market stalls, and an Easter hunt.

Make it a movie night

In Cape Town, the Galileo Open Air Cinema will be holding their annual Easter screening at Kelvin Grove showing the much-loved family-friendly film, Hop. There will also be jumping castles, face painting, balloon artists and an Easter Egg hunt on the day.

An Easter first, Humewood Golf Club in Gqeberha is transforming into a Drive-In! Bring the whole family – and don’t forget an FM Radio (if your car doesn’t have one) to enjoy a fun-filled night out this Easter.

If you’re going away for the long weekend, we’ve got some inspiration for you. Don’t forget to prepare your car for the roadtrip.

Wishing you a safe and happy Easter.
