The As the festive season approaches and celebrations start to fill up calendars, it’s more important than ever for young adults to prioritise their personal safety while on the move.
With many going out to enjoy year-end parties, festivals, and social gatherings, we encourage all commuters—especially young adults—to plan their journeys responsibly. Recent incidents have highlighted the vulnerability that can arise after a night out, particularly when travelling alone or at odd hours.
Whether you’re using public transport, e-hailing services, or getting a lift from friends, taking precautions can make all the difference. The AA (Automobile Association) is urging young people to stay alert, make use of trusted travel options, and explore personal safety tools like joining the AA, which can provide immediate assistance in emergencies.
“We want everyone to enjoy the festive season safely. Having a plan for how you’ll get home is just as important as the celebration itself,” says Bobby Ramagwede CEO: AA.
Tips for Safe Travels:
- Always let someone know where you’re going and when you expect to be home,
- Stick to well-lit, busy areas when waiting for transport,
- Avoid travelling alone late at night, and
- Use safety services like the AA’s on-demand armed response, which connects you to emergency services quickly if you’re unsafe.
Let’s make safety part of the celebration this season. Look out for each other and travel smart.
