Why it matters in South Africa

An estimated 1.7 million vehicles in South Africa are affected, that’s nearly 10% of vehicles on our roads, yet many remain unrepaired.

Despite ongoing awareness efforts by vehicle manufacturers (OEMs) and importers, many affected vehicles are still in circulation. Although replacement of the faulty airbags is provided free of charge at authorised dealerships, too many motorists remain unaware of the risk or have not yet acted.

This means millions of South Africans may still be driving vehicles fitted with potentially dangerous airbags, making awareness and action critical.

The fix is free

Affected airbags can be replaced at no cost through authorised dealerships and we can help you make those arrangements.

Working together for safer roads

The AA, in collaboration with vehicle manufacturers, the National Consumer Commission and National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa, is supporting efforts to help South Africans check their vehicles and complete this critical safety recall.

Check if your vehicle is affected and book your free replacement today.

To complete the vehicle check, the following details will be required:

  • Name and Surname
  • RSA ID Number (or Passport Number)
  • Residential Address (to assist in locating the nearest OEM dealership)
  • Mobile Number
  • Email Address
  • Vehicle Make
  • VIN Number

To ensure the process is completed, a AA Access profile will be created, and all correspondence will be managed via this profile.

By submitting your details, you consent to the relevant OEM contacting you to arrange the required free airbag replacement for your vehicle.
