Defensive Driving Course

This training introduces skills not taught at licence level. Our unique approach yields exceptional results, even in fleets previously trained by our competitors. The course can be presented in-person, online or remotely.

Introduction
A vehicle is a machine, and like all machines, operating it safely requires certain skills.

The South African driving test covers only the basics, with no requirement for recurrent training as in other safety-sensitive fields like aviation or medicine.

Our defensive driving course bridges the gap, ensuring real-world competence.

What do we teach?

We start by verifying that basic licence-level skills are in place.

Then we progress to items not taught at licence level, or where techniques have changed in recent years.

Finally, we tackle the march of technology which often passes drivers by. Vehicles have changed more in the past ten years than in the thirty years before.

Anti-hijack Course

Hijackings have risen by nearly 70% since 2013. Fight back with our complete guide to beating vehicle crime.

Introduction

Hijacking is one of South Africa’s most vexing crimes.

After an improvement in the late 2000s, the hijacking rate ticked up and is now at historic levels for both trucks and cars.

Research shows that hijackers are ruthless, well-armed, and often under the influence of drugs. They will stop at nothing and almost any vehicle is a potential target. But there is help at hand…

What do we teach?

We emphasise prevention and review all types of vehicle crime, showing how most potential danger situations can be prevented with a little pre-planning.

Once drivers recognise that hijack prevention is just a security-focused extension of defensive driving, they are ready to prevent and combat vehicle crime.

And, if the worst comes to the worst, they’re equipped to escape with their lives.

Driving Assessments Course

We get to the heart of driving ability with online, on-road, simulator or remote assessments.

Introduction

Many companies take a driving licence at face value. But licences can be bought (about half are).

Even a properly-licensed driver will be driving far below par without regular refresher training after licence level.

Inadequate driving skill is the single biggest cause of excess fuel, maintenance and crash costs.

Why assess?

Mainly to ensure that a driver is properly licensed. We frequently encounter drivers who have clearly never passed a driving test, because they simply couldn’t have: they can’t steer or change gears, something that a competent driver ought to be able to do after four or five learner driver lessons.

Assessments also identify skill loss, poor habits, and lack of defensive driving.

Chauffeur Course

The pinnacle of driving. Many of South Africa’s top executives are safe in the hands of driving.co.za-trained chauffeurs.

Introduction

Much has changed since the days when ‘chauffeur’ referred to the person who stoked the fire on a steam-driven ship or train. But the word is synonymous with the utmost in discretion, skill and awareness when driving.

Our chauffeur course propels drivers to the very peak of driving ability, covering all aspects of the chauffeur’s art. A must-have for the transfer driver or VIP / executive chauffeur.

What is covered?

The curriculum is extensive, from basic vehicle mechanics and preparation (has the litter been picked up around the pick-up area?) to superb defensive driving technique and exemplary smoothness.

All this goes with a thorough grounding in etiquette, manners, personal image, security-awareness and discretion, so that the VIP passenger is insulated from almost every conceivable hazard and discomfort.

Yard Manoeuvering Course

Focused training to reduce yard incidents.

Introduction

A small, but costly percentage of fleet damage arises from incidents that take place in yards and loading bays at either end of a journey.

These incidents can also lead to death, injury, work stoppages and stock loss.

Our Yard Manoeuvering Course ensures all on-vehicle teams have the skills to avoid these incidents.

What is covered?

The Yard Manoeuvering course is a short-format course, designed to fit into shift changes or morning / afternoon driver handovers.

Each course trains five teams of driver and van assistant in the basics of manoeuvering in confined environments.

We highly recommend including yard supervisors, for extra redundancy.

New Ministers must step up government’s service to citizens

The finalisation of the Cabinet of National Unity by President Cyril Ramaphosa has brought certainty to the leadership of key government departments, a move welcomed by the Automobile Association (AA). The Association notes that Ms Barbara Creecy, appointed as the new Minister of Transport, and Mr GwedeMantashe, re-appointed as the Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, must now ensure effective leadership with a view to making meaningful inroads into critical areas managed by their...

Positive outlook for most fuel prices for July

The small decrease in the number of fatalities on South African roads between the December 2022 and January 2023 festive period and the 2023/2024 period is commendable and signals a slight improvement in road safety efforts by authorities. However, the Automobile Association (AA) remains concerned that the deaths of 1427 road users during the festive period is still too high, and that more needs to be done to effectively deal with road safety in South Africa. Transport Minister Sindisiwe...
