Fuel to swing lower as oil retreats

South African fuel users will enjoy a breather in September, with prices of all grades of fuel set to drop. This is according to the Automobile Association (AA) which was commenting on unaudited month-end fuel price data released by the Central Energy Fund.

Time’s up to renew driving licences and discs

Gautrain extension unacceptable

Proposed route extensions to the Gautrain must be rejected by the Gauteng Provincial Government as they will perpetuate a system which caters for the minority of citizens in the province who don’t need it, instead of the mass market which does. This call on the provincial government is contained in a detailed submission of the Automobile Association (AA) made today in relation to the proposed extensions of the Gauteng Rapid Rail Integrated Network, or simply, the Gautrain.

Fuel hits record highs in SA – breaches R18/l

The price of all fuel will, from midnight tonight (3 August), hit record highs across the country, outstripping by some margin the priciest fuel has ever been in South Africa. According to the Automobile Association (AA) fuel first hit record highs in April when 95 ULP in Gauteng was priced at R17.32 a litre, and R16.61 at the coast. Record highs were again recorded in July with the price pegged at R17.39 inland, and R16.67 at the cost.

Rand, oil to push fuel higher

All fuel types will be more expensive in August when the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) adjusted fuel prices for August. This is according to the Automobile Association (AA) which was commenting on unaudited month-end fuel price data released by the Central Energy Fund (CEF). The fuel price is adjusted on the first Wednesday of every month.

The Automobile Association (AA) calls on South Africans to limit all non-essential travel as road transport comes under pressure from unrest and the spectre of fuel shortages. The Association also warns that unaudited mid-month fuel price data from the Central Energy Fund reflected a risk of substantial fuel price hikes at month-end.

Motorists and other road users in parts of KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng are advised to plan their trips with care, avoid areas where civil unrest has been reported, and ensure they have access to security back-up if the need it. The Automobile Association (AA) says it is concerned about the economic impact of recent riots on main roads, at toll plazas, and in certain CBD areas, especially on the road freight sector.
